Big Storm Brewing Co has created a special limited-release beer to celebrate “Skyway: A Contemporary Collaboration,” an exhibit shared between three institutions: The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota; the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg; and the Tampa Museum of Art.

It is the very first time the three leading art museums in the area have worked in such close collaboration to simultaneously provide a single exhibition. From 300 entries, 57 local artists were selected by curators from each institution along with a guest juror from the Perez Art Museum in Miami. The Skyway exhibit, open until Oct. 1, gives visitors a sense of the diverse and extraordinary work that is produced in this area.

Recognizing that brewing craft beer is an artistic endeavor, the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg approached Big Storm Brewery to create a limited release craft beer that could also help celebrate the community of artistic talent in the local area.

“Being asked to participate is an honor,” said Big Storm Head Brewer Joel Moore. “We brew beer like an artist creates a painting. We slowly add layers of flavor into our beer which can be compared to applying different colors and pigments to a piece of art,” Moore continued.

The refreshing pilsner named “Yellow Cable Lager” is available for purchase for the duration of the exhibit at each museum’s restaurant: Muse at The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota; MFA Café at the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg; and Sono Café in the Tampa Museum of Art which is operated by Tampa icon, Mise en Place.
